The layout of the front cover ensures that the image is very central, therefore very much the focus of the readers attention. The title at the top of the page is also very dominant, particularly as the large, bold black font very much stands out. The title of the band acts as the main sell line, and the red font ensures that this is the case. I will also include a brief description of the article about the band underneath the band title, as this gives the reader more information and makes them want to read on. Along the bottom of the page will be a banner, which will give information about a piece in the magazine about the biggest bands of the new year. I will use bright and contrasting colours for this part of the magazine, possible a red background with white text, however this depends upon what colours are suitable for the main image as this will act as the background of the rest of the page. I will inclue the rest of my sell lines down either side of the page, framing the image of the band. This will ensure that the image remains the main focus of the page, however the sell lines are still brought to the readers attention and makes the magazine look worth buying. I will use a black text for these sell lines.
The contents page will contain one main image, with two smaller images underneath. These images will all relate to their relevant article, and I will include a small caption on each image which contains a page number. The use of these images will break up the text of the page, and makes the contents page more appealing to look at. The magazine title will be in the top left of the page, and the bold font again ensures that it is very visible on the page. The table of contents will be laid out in collumns as this generally makes it easer to read, and will be seperated into sections, for example "Regular Features" etc. In the bottom right corner will be a subscription offer, which will contain small images of previous issues of the magazine. I will make up these magazine covers with any shots which i don't use, adding to the professionality of the magazine.
The double page spread is made up of one large image on one page, and the other page mainly made up of the actual article. The main image will be of my dad, playing the part of a famous rock star who has recently left his band in a high profile split. On the right hand side, in the bottom corner, I will insert some images of my dad and uncle, which will act as images of the band prior to the break up. The main headline overlaps both pages, and is very bold and large. I am thinking that i will put some of the text on an angle, like in this sketch; this gives connotations of something that is broken, relating to the article. The headline will then have another sub heading - "Bites Back" - which is a play on words of the main heading. This makes it clear what the article is about. I will then have a quote from the article spread over both pages, reinforcing what the content of the article is, and making the reader want to read on. I will most likely use black and red colours as this follows the house style from the cover and contents page.
The colour theme I am going for throughout my magazine is red, black and white. This is because this is a very popular colour theme in similar genre magazines, for example Kerrang! I believe these colours look very effective together and are eye catching.
